It’s easy to add custom links to the WordPress menu!
You may want to add an external link to someone else’s website to your navigation menu. You can do this by adding a custom link.
You may want to add a pdf link to the menu, which you could also do by adding a custom link to the WordPress menu.

These are the steps to add custom links to the WordPress menu
- Go to the Appearance panel
- Click open the Menu panel
- Go to the Custom Links panel
- Click this open
- Go to your Internet browser and open up the website you want to add as your custom link
- Copy the URL or website address from the top left corner – see image below
- Go back to the WordPress admin
- Go to the Custom Links panel
- Go to the URL field
- And paste in the copied URL
- Add a Label
- This is the name you want to show in your menu
- See image below
- Click Add to Menu
- Drag and drop the item into place or the order you want
- Click Save Menu
- That’s it!
- Now you should have the custom link in your menu
- You can also add internal pages or posts to the custom links menu
How to add a PDF to the navigation menu
- Load the pdf first into the Media Library
- Once the PDF is saved into the media library
- Open it up and copy the URL
- Go the Menu > then to the Custom Links panel
- Paste the copied URL into the Custom Links field
- Add your Label
- Then click Add to Menu
- Make sure you Save the menu
- So when the user clicks on the link it will automatically open the PDF up in the brower!
